Visa is working with several mall partners to encourage tourists to spend and pay with Visa

Visa, the world’s leader in digital payments, today announced a partnership with Mid Valley to encourage tourists to use digital payments for their purchases during the festive season. This is one of the first few initiatives that Visa is conducting to increase tourism spend as part of the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign.

Through this campaign, Visa cardholders can make a purchase at Mid Valley Megamall, KL and The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey, JB and pay using their contactless cards to win a redemption gift. They will also receive eco-friendly metal straws and pans as giveaways for transactions above RM200 and RM350 respectively.1 Visa and Mid Valley will also be introducing another campaign to celebrate Chinese New Year from 5 January to 2 February next year. Visa cardholders can receive Toys “R” Us vouchers when they spend a minimum of RM350 using their contactless cards.

Visa has also partnered with Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall, Terminal Pahlawan, Melaka and Hatten Square, Melaka. From 1 December 2019 to 2 January 2020, Visa cardholders will receive a special design Barbie canvas shopping bag if they spend a minimum of RM300 using their contactless cards at these three participating malls.

“We are extremely excited to promote Malaysia as a tourist destination, especially to our neighbours in Asia Pacific. Based on our data, Singaporeans, Indonesians and the Chinese are the top spenders when they travel to Malaysia. During this festive period, we are partnering with malls frequented by tourists to encourage them to use their payment cards, particularly contactless payments, when they make purchases in Malaysia. These promotions are designed to help boost tourism spend as part of the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign,” said Mr. Ng Kong Boon, Visa Country Manager for Malaysia.

“In addition, we have year-long promotions and offers in various parts of Malaysia including Klang Valley, Melaka, Johor Bahru and Penang. Visa cardholders can enjoy discounts and benefits at family attractions such as Legoland, Adventure Waterpark, Hello kitty Town, Thomas Town and KidZania,” he added.

1The offer is applicable on every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, eve of Public Holiday and Public Holiday within the campaign period.
